This Sunday was Passion Sunday. I love the custom of veiling crosses and images in Passiontide as a sign of the increasing concentration on Christ's suffering and sacrifice and the removal of distractions. We re-introduced it at Lamford in my second year and this year veiling returned to Swanvale Halt.
Our sacristan had a whole pile of veils at home. 'We'll have to go through what you want veiled', she said. 'This is the first time we've done this in 15 years'.
